We
are dedicated "fanciers" who participate in various dog related events. We breed
occasionally to produce what we believe to be quality Alaskan Malamutes that
conform to the breed standard, are intelligent, have working ability, without
compromising health. We test all our breeding stock through the following
recognized canine health organizations (OFA/OVC, CERF, CHD). We plan litters
only when we are looking to keep a future prospect for ourselves. Therefore, we
seldom have more than one litter a year and at times there may be a few years
before we plan another breeding. We are, however, more than happy to help answer
any questions and guide you to finding a puppy for you through other reputable
breeders.

When we have litters,
we make sure our puppies are sold to loving committed homes. We do our best to
screen the owners to ensure a good match between the puppy and the buyer. Before
the puppy leaves our home, it has been well care for and socialized. The puppy
does not go to it's new owner as a trained, well-mannered finished product. It
is up to the puppy buyer to complete the job we have started. The new owner is
responsible for the further development of the puppies personality, through
structured discipline, training, guidance, and love. When the puppies are ready
to leave our home to venture out into their new homes, they will have received
1-2 visits to our vet, 1st and possibly their second sets of
vaccinations, tattooed, and a full health exam, to exclude any health issues that
may not be visible. Our puppies are also dewormed from the young age of 2
weeks old until 6 weeks using panacur and interceptor.
All puppies are also
temperament tested between 6-8 weeks using the Volhard testing sheets,
confirmation evaluations using the Pat Hasting testing method and usually they
also receive the Mel Fisherback's puppy selection method which is a test done to
better select working dogs for sledding, lead dogs, team dogs, etc.
All of our pet
puppies are sold on a non-breeding agreement--without exception. Pet puppies are
required to be spayed/neutered--no exceptions. As much as possible we attempt to
evaluate each puppy’s personality by observing them during their development.
We attempt to match the puppy to the buyer to produce
the best fit of puppy and family. In other words, we will pick what we feel is
the best puppy for you based on your questionnaire answers or will give you our
thoughts on each potential puppy's personality.
We
make every effort to ensure that our puppies are free from inherited defects, by
screening perspective breeding stock for those problems common to our breed.
However due to complex genetic interactions and e nvironmental factors, of which
we cannot control, we cannot guarantee that a puppy purchased from us will be free of
all genetic disorders but we do provide a guarantee that if a puppy should be
diagnosed with a hereditary or congenital defect which develops to the extent it
renders the dog unsuitable as a pet, a replacement will be given. The same
applies to a dog sold as a show prospect. Should he/she develops to be unsuitable for
the show ring or does not clear the health requirements for breeding, a
replacement will also be given.
At the time that the
new buyer comes to pick up the puppy or when the puppy is shipped
to
his/her new home, we provide a Akamute Puppy Pack which includes: the companion/show
contract, a pedigree of the puppy, pictures of the puppy's ancestors, parent's
copy of all health certificates and health clearances (i.e: OFA, CERF, CHD, etc) &
their titles, the Volhard temperament test results and other test results such as
Mel Fishback/Pat Hasting testing, health certificates & current health cards
from our vet, tons of information on feeding, housebreaking training, different
activities to do with your Alaskan Malamute, and a blanket & stuffed toy which may help the
puppy to settle in his/her new home while still having the scent of their mother
and siblings, providing a comfort zone.
Our responsibility as breeders are
for the life of that puppy, should any problem arise at anytime, we are just a
phone call or an email away and always willing to help and answer any question
you may have. If at any time a dog sold as a companion cannot be kept or needs
to be resold, the dog is to be returned to us in order to
be re-homed into a new family, this is without exception so we can ensure all our
dogs are place in loving homes and that we are able to keep in contact from time
to time.
